Debra Hadfield, BSN Nursing Program Director for Baker College of Jackson, has earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) on April 26, 2018, from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.
Her final project was titled: Use of Virtual Simulation as Home Assignments to Improve Clinical Reasoning Skills in First Semester Bachelor Nursing Students.
“Debra Hadfield’s contributions to the College and her discipline have enriched and improved the lives of those around her,” said Brad Romans, Ph.D., Director of Academic Affairs at Baker College of Jackson. “Her shift into education has broadened her impact on healthcare, as she is now able to impact new generations of Nurses who will carry forward the good work of providing expert and humane care to underserved populations. Her latest educational achievement echoes the achievements students have both seen and benefited from.”
With this degree, Dr. Hadfield plans to continue her work with critical reasoning skills in nursing students.
Nursing faculty at the Baker College of Cadillac Campus have also recently achieved benchmarks in their continuing education. Lori Dewey, BSN Nursing Program Director and Barbara Barnes and Sara Wilk, BSN Nursing Faculty, earned their Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) on April 26, 2018, from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. Christy Rapoza, nursing faculty, received her Masters in Nursing (MSN) on May 4, 2018, from Baker College.
Dr. Dewey and Dr. Barnes final project was the creation and implementation of a Nurse Residency Program Pilot for a local hospital. Dr. Wilk’s final project was titled: Interprofessional Education Through Telecommunication With Undergraduate Nursing Students and Medical Residents. Ms. Rapoza’s final practicum presentation is titled: Simulation in Caring for the Sexual Assault Patient.
Dr. Lori Dewey, Nursing Program Director for the Cadillac BSN program, attained the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential on May 31, 2018. This designation distinguishes Dr. Dewey’s professionalism and expertise as an academic nurse educator.
Dr. Sara Wilk, Nursing Faculty for the Cadillac BSN program, during the 2017/2018 academic year attained certification as a Certified Critical Care Pediatric Knowledge (CCRN-K) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). The CCRN-K certification distinguishes Dr. Wilk as a clinical expert in the care of the pediatric population. The CHSE certification is formal professional recognition of Dr. Wilk’s specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, and accomplishments in simulation education.
As healthcare continually changes, the need for highly skilled nurses with advanced degrees in increasing. The nursing faculty at Baker College dedicate themselves to providing the most advanced and up-to-date education to the next generation of nurses possible.
